New York City - NYC - Education - Between the Tines

Early Morning Alone Time

I’m usually out of the house by 6:30 AM when I’m heading to the ICE Culinary Arts program on Saturdays and Sundays. This has become my new “early morning alone time.”

I take the 6:48 AM Metro-North train to Grand Central Station, then the 6 train to 23rd street and walk to the school from there. This is a very reflective time for me.

I’m thinking about the long week that just passed. I’m thinking about the long day that lies ahead. The travel time affords me the opportunity to shift gears from one world to the next.

The city has “early morning alone time,” too. New York seems to be shifting gears as well from the long week that just passed, to the weekend that lies ahead.

Seeing the city so peaceful, empty, and silent is almost overwhelmingly beautiful to me. It seems like New York is gathering the courage to start a new and different day, and so am I.
